The Harmony You Seek is Less Important Than the Harmony You Bring
Husband to

ufcub, I'm happy bear-identified guy living a very good life in San Francisco.
I've tried to get this journaling thing off the ground a time or two before. Here is a fresh start and a new inspiration for me, so perhaps I'll make something of it all this time.
Born & raised in a small town in central Wisconsin, too young to be a Baby Boomer too old to be a GenX'er. After some years of bouncing around from college to Iowa and then Chicago, I finally settled down in San Francisco, met the love of my life, bought a house, got a dog & 2 cats and eventually got married (several times to the same guy). We live near the Castro and really enjoy our life here.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin (MBA), I manage a regional consulting practice for a professional services firm based out of suburban DC. My office is in downtown San Francisco and I love my car-free commute. My career path is kind of strange. I got my undergraduate in International Trade & Commerce (German language minor) and started out as the International Sales Coordinator for a manufacturer in Appleton, WI. After getting "right sized" out of that job, I went back to get my MBA. I took a retail management job with a regional department store chain to get me through school, but ended up staying with the company after graduation and eventually was promoted to the headquarters in Des Moines, IA. After 5 years with the firm, I was lured away by a software vendor in Chicago to consult for them. I implemented their solution at over 25 retailers across the United States, Canada and England. It was a great experience and luckily I got all those flight miles under my belt before the meltdown of the air travel system. Eventually, I ended up working for software giant PeopleSoft and relocated to the Bay Area. I managed a consulting practice for the company and eventually took the role of Operations Director for their North American consulting group. To this day, that was a highlight of my career. Of course, PeopleSoft now belongs to Oracle (oddly enough, my husband has worked there for 10 years).
As much as I consider myself very skilled at professional services management, I find myself longing for the immediacy and excitement of the retail industry these days. There is something special about throwing open the doors and putting on the show every day. Even from the perspective of the buying office, it is exciting to see the day-by-day, hour-by-hour response to the merchandise and promotions. Over the long term, I hope to pull these disparate pieces of my career back together into a cohesive, engaging whole.
